Palouse Youth Climbing Team
Our Goals
- To offer after-school athletic options for kids and teens ages 11-17 focused on physical, emotional, and intellectual growth based on principles of climbing as a sport and as a movement philosophy.
- We will maintain 1:6 coach/student ratio to maintain quality personal coaching and skill refinement.
- Provide community growth opportunities and youth development by engaging youth through a constructive competitive environment focused around team mindset development.
- Have fun and climb Vandal strong!
Equipment Needs
- Face covering appropriate for physical activity (it stays on)
- UIAA approved climbing harness
- Belay Device/Tubular or Assisted Braking (14 years and older)
- Climbing shoes
- Personal waist chalk bag/chalk bucket and chalk sock or liquid chalk

Athletic clothing allowing for wide ranging movement.
Only water is allowed in the U of I Climbing Center.
Climbing gear must be brought with students. Team Packs from Asana Climbing will be ordered after the roster is filled at the beginning of the season and gear must be brought to each session. Cubbies are available in the climbing center for students during practice.
15 minutes prior to practice, coach(es) will be stationed outside to pick up the climbing team and will head into practice at 3:30 p.m.
Parking passes are available through the SRC, or drop-offs with coach(es) can be arranged.
The University of Idaho’s Climbing Center has developed guidelines to address risks associated with the spread of the Coronavirus:
- Face coverings must be worn while in the gym and climbing at all times.
- We advise everyone to maintain appropriate social distancing measures.
- During practice, athletes and coaches will be required to wash or sanitize their hands every 30- 45 minutes (3-5 times per practice).
- We encourage athletes to compete in any local or championship competitions that occur if their family unit sees it appropriate.
- The capacity of the climbing center for PYCT practice is five students and one coach at a time included within the 24 person gym max
