University Committee on General Education
UCGE serves as the curriculum body for the University of Idaho's undergraduate general education. UCGE solicits and approves proposals and courses to be included in general education and, in conjunction with the Director of General Education and the Associate Director of Assessment and Accreditation, engages in program review and making recommendations for the continuous refinement of general education.
UCGE-approved recommendations for changes are forwarded to the University Curriculum Committee (UCC), Faculty Senate, and the general faculty for information and/or action. UCGE reports periodically (at least once a year) to the Faculty Senate on the status of general education. This committee traditionally meets on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m.
Proposing a New General Education Course
If you have a course you wish to propose for inclusion in the UI General Education Curriculum, proposal guidelines are listed in the "Proposal Links” menu on the right side of this page. Once you have drafted your proposal, you will complete the Approval Form for Course Changes in CourseLeaf’s Curriculum Inventory Managements (CIM) software. You can find a link to the Approval Form for Course Changes here.
For additional assistance with help on the design of your course, its content, or in addressing the UCGE proposal guidelines, contact Barb Kirchmeier, Director of General Education at barbara@uidaho.edu.
