Finance graduate 'test drives' career as Northwest Mutual financial advisor before starting practice
"I graduated from the University of Idaho in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in finance. Career Services helped connect me with the current dream I am living today. At a career fair, I met a recruiter for Northwestern Mutual, one of the world’s most admired companies as rated by "Fortune" magazine. I landed an internship with Northwestern Mutual, a top-10 internship in the country, and was given the opportunity to "test drive" the career of a financial advisor. Throughout the six months of my internship, I learned much about myself, life and the real world of business.
I decided to stay with Northwestern Mutual after I graduated, and in 2013 I was named "Rookie of the Year" for our region. Owning a practice with Northwestern Mutual allows me to be the captain of my own ship and to live a very rewarding lifestyle. Today, I’m not only running my personal financial advisory practice, but I’ve also taken a leadership and development position within our region to help coach, grow and develop our team.
A day in the life for me involves meeting with my clients, coaching and developing our interns, and making high level decisions on the growth and direction of our organization. I sleep well at night knowing that I am making a difference in our community. For me, life is about passion, relationships and influence. Career Services connected me to my dream, and I couldn’t be more excited with the direction I’m taking in my life and my career."
