Admission to UHP
Incoming
freshmen are considered for admission based on high school GPA and standardized test score(s).
Prospective freshmen who return the UHP application for admission postcard and meet the initial criteria
for admission are required to submit a two-page
essay on predetermined topics.
What's the Next Step If I'm Interested?
To begin the UHP admission application process,
please fill out and return an application postcard. To request a UHP brochure and application postcard, call 1-888-884-3246 or 1-208-885-6147, or write to us by E-mail at
honors@uidaho.edu.
Though there is no set deadline for applying to the University Honors Program, initial registration for fall semester classes begins in late March. Please note that priority for reviewing strong applications for potential UHP scholarship or tuition waiver support is given to essays received on or before December 15. Essays received by January 15 will be considered for normal notification of funding. Strong applications for admission that are received after February 15 also are considered for scholarship or tuition waiver support, if funding is available.
Current UI students
who achieve a minimum 3.5 GPA during their first year at
the University of Idaho may also apply for admission at
the end of either semester. Transfer students
with a 3.5 college GPA are considered for admission on a
case-by-case basis; Students in good standing in an honors program at
their previous school are considered for admission based
on a 3.5 GPA and review of their previous honors course work--for example, honors credits (usually those designated as such on the academic transcript) that transfer are evaluated and with the UHP director's approval may apply toward admission with good standing, and selectively on a course-by-course basis apply toward either the UHP Core Award
or UHP Certificate requirement.
