Each
year, the University Honors Program offers a number of scholarships
for Idaho residents and out-of-state tuition waivers to
non-resident students and international students. These
substantial awards (the equivalent of over $525,000 in total
support to over 100 UHP students) are based on academic
merit as well as on the UHP entrance essay and the date
of the completed application for admission to the UHP. No
additional application form is required. Priority for reviewing strong applications for potential scholarship or tuition waiver support is given to responses postmarked by the deadlines noted for the application essay. Essays received on or before December 15 will be evaluated for early consideration for funding and those received by January 15 will be considered for normal notification of funding. Strong applications for admission that are received after February 15 also are considered for scholarship or tuition waiver support, if funding is available. For students who enrolled prior to fall 2007, see scholarship renewal guidelines that specify satisfactory
progress to achieve the UHP Certificate, while maintaining an overall GPA of 3.3. For freshmen enrolling fall 2008(or fall 2007) , see the following highlighted link to course, credit, and GPA requirements specified for renewal of support. New awards of such
support are also routinely made to those making good progress
toward earning the honors program certificate, and these scholarship offers may specify continued satisfactory progress towards completion of the certificate as a condition for renewal.
The University Honors Program also helps to advise students
about opportunities for national scholarships. Since the
program's inception, honors students have won national recognition
by receiving a variety of such major scholarships as the
Cooke, Fulbright, Goldwater, Rotary Ambassadorial, Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Udall, and other
scholarships to support their undergraduate and graduate
education.
