Curriculum and courses
The B.S. in Architecture program requires 124 credits, covering U of I education requirements and foundational courses in theory, design and sustainable practices, including:

To earn your Master of Architecture degree, you must complete an additional 45 graduate credits.
With a bachelor’s degree in architecture, you’re equipped to pursue entry-level roles in design, drafting, construction management and other areas within the building and planning industries. This degree also provides a strong foundation for careers in related fields, such as urban planning, sustainable design and historic preservation.

This program includes a Professional Fee to support studio resources, equipment and opportunities, like field trips, that enhance your learning experience:
- All full-time students (10-20 credits) - $716.00 per semester
- Part-time undergraduate students (1-9 credits) - $72.00 per credit
- Part-time graduate students - $80.00 per credit (does not exceed $716)

Architecture internships and programs
Take your learning even further with internships at architecture firms, non-profits and public agencies. Or, join our Design-Build Program, where you work on real construction projects with real clients.
Get started on your architecture degree by reviewing the program’s four-year admission process. Each phase has specific requirements, giving you clear milestones as you progress through the program.
First-year admission
To become an architecture major, you must meet University of Idaho’s general admission requirements. Review the details and apply as a first-year or transfer student.
Second-year admission
After finishing the first-year architecture degree requirements, you can apply for the pre-professional B.S. in Architecture program. Your transcripts, completion of first year requirements and grade point average (minimum 2.5 GPA required) are evaluated. Approximately 60 students are admitted based on academic performance.
Third-year admission
The professional architecture program starts during your junior year, and you are eligible to apply once you complete your second-year requirements. Your student portfolio, transcript and GPA (minimum 2.5 GPA required) are evaluated. About 45 applicants are accepted.
Fourth-year admission
As a senior, we encourage you to further your education by applying to U of I’s architecture graduate program.
B.S. in Architecture degree-holders must have maintained a 3.0 GPA throughout the architecture major, completed the undergraduate studio sequence and stand out among applicants from other schools. Some current students may need to apply for admission to graduate school after their fall term fourth-year studio course. This is possible, but it requires special permission from the graduate program coordinator.
Bachelor of Industrial Design (B.I.D.) degree-holders must have maintained a 3.0 GPA in the B.I.D. program, completed the undergraduate studio sequence and stand out among applicants from other schools.
Note: Continuing students from University of Idaho are not required to submit portfolios or letters of reference with their graduate application. However, they must still complete a separate application to the Seamless Master of Architecture program.
