Department of History

Discover a whole new world: the human past.

There’s no better way to know where you’re going than knowing where you’ve been. And that’s the beauty of studying history.

Not only do you get to learn about the exciting world of people and places of the past, you will also acquire rigorous and in-depth analytical and research skills that translate broadly into a variety of diverse and exciting career options.

History provides an excellent preparation for students to pursue careers in international business, government and military service, medicine and public health services, international agencies, education, library science, communications and media, tourism and recreation, museum studies and curatorships, and working with public documents and services. It is a superb choice for students preparing to go into the field of law.

The history program also has an incredible record of placing our graduates in first-rate graduate and professional programs across the United States and the United Kingdom — including Harvard, Princeton, UC Berkeley and Oxford.
