Annalise Walkama

Annalise Walkama received her doctorate in history from Purdue University in May 2024. Her current book project explores Eastern European refugee student migration to France in the postwar period. Drawing on the records of international refugee student organizations and the French government, this project considers how race influenced the financial and social support for refugee students as the country navigated decolonization and changing ideas about citizenship.

Annalise has worked and studied in numerous cities throughout France. Most recently, she lived intermittently between Paris and the United States for five years while preparing her dissertation. She also previously taught as a visiting lecturer at the Université Grenoble Alpes.
