The College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences is a thriving hub of creativity, research and connection. Fueled by groundbreaking discoveries, award-winning performances and impactful community projects, CLASS is where ideas flourish and connections are forged.  

Students collaborate with faculty to study real-world data to inform policy solutions in the criminal justice system, alumni craft educational plays celebrating women’s empowerment and students showcase their original short films with the Moscow community. Whether it’s uncovering cultural heritage through anthropological research, transforming lives with prison education or advancing global discussions through political science and international studies programs, our stories reflect the diversity and vibrancy of the college.

Summer camps

CLASS hosts immersive opportunities for K-12 students, including music and theatre camps as well as academic enrichment programs. Our camps combine hands-on learning with mentorship from U of I students and faculty.

Oppenheimer Symposium

The Oppenheimer Symposium explores the intersection of science, ethics and society, inspired by the legacy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Featuring leading scholars and scientists, this event addresses global issues through a multidisciplinary lens. 

Runstad Lecture Series

Renowned speakers explore topics across the arts, humanities and social sciences to inspire critical thinking and celebrate the power of ideas in shaping the world.
