Ensembles

Based on the student’s preferences, every Hamp's Camper will participate in two different large ensembles, a chamber ensemble, and the Hamp’s Camp Ensemble. Each of these ensembles will be coached by our faculty and staff members. These ensembles can be from multiple concentrations — for example, a student could choose to perform in concert band, jazz ensemble, and a chamber ensemble — and our schedule is setup to accommodate a student with a variety of interests. If a pre-formed chamber ensemble plans to attend, please contact us via email about receiving a discount on camp tuition.

Winds, Brass and Percussion

The band program at the Lionel Hampton Music Camp offers instrumentalists the opportunity to play in daily rehearsals in which they will prepare a variety of repertoire, work with faculty members from the Lionel Hampton School of Music, participate in master classes and sectionals with studio professors, and give a final performance at the end of the week.

Band and instrumental faculty at University of Idaho will be leading rehearsals, coaching chamber ensembles, and giving master classes. Please see our faculty page to view our currently scheduled faculty roster. If you do not see a faculty member for your instrument, please contact us to find out who will be teaching that instrument for this coming summer.

Voice

Members of the Lionel Hampton Music Camp’s voice program will have the opportunity to work with faculty members and staff at the beautiful campus of University of Idaho to develop their musicianship skills, vocal technique and musical knowledge. In addition to large choir, you will have the opportunity to request training in a variety of interests, including musical theatre, voice lessons, acting and movement, and performance.

This is an opportunity for all students at the Lionel Hampton Music Camp to come together and perform original music composed and/or arranged by faculty at University of Idaho. This unique ensemble will rehearse each day and perform as the grand finale of the concert on Saturday afternoon. The Hamp’s Camp combined ensemble will be directed and coached by Dan Bukvich, and many of the LHSOM faculty members and counselors will perform in the ensemble in order to give students a chance to play alongside their mentors.

Jazz

The jazz program at the Lionel Hampton Music Camp offers instrumentalists and vocalists a chance to rehearse and perform with their peers and distinguished jazz faculty at the Lionel Hampton School of Music. Students will prepare a variety of music, develop their improvisational skills, and perform at the end of the week.
