Undergraduate Admissions

All prospective undergraduate music majors are required to audition into the Lionel Hampton School of Music on a primary instrument or voice.

The Lionel Hampton School of Music offers a variety of bachelor's degrees and minors for our undergraduate students.

The Bachelor of Music (B.Mus) is a professional degree and is the normal preparation for graduate study in music or for teacher education. In these degrees, the majority of classes are within music. The Lionel Hampton School of Music (LHSOM) offers a Bachelor of Music in composition, music education or performance.

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) emphasize a broad liberal-arts education, with fewer than half of the credits in music and the remainder outside of music. Students who are pursuing majors in two or more fields typically select the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science option in applied music.

Minors in music, jazz studies, musical theatre and vocal-instrumental music education provide students with a great way to explore music while taking an alternate career path.
