What is AHEC?

The AHEC network is a national system of more than 300 program offices and centers developed to enhance healthcare access and delivery in underserved areas. AHECs bring together academic programs and regional health needs in ways that benefit communities and, most importantly, individual citizens.

The North Idaho Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is one of three centers in Idaho. Founded in 2017, the North Idaho AHEC is hosted by WWAMI Medical Education at the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID. Since 1972, the University of Idaho has partnered with the University of Washington School of Medicine to train Idaho's future physicians. Idaho WWAMI and North Idaho AHEC both serve Idaho by emphasizing rural and/or underserved health care to meet the needs of the state, making it an ideal home for North Idaho AHEC.
