Explore Idaho with gear from the Outdoor Rental Center

The Outdoor Rental Center at University of Idaho boasts the largest selection of rental outdoor equipment in the Northwest. We offer gear for every season — from summer rafting, kayaking and camping, to winter skiing, snowboarding and backcountry adventures. We also provide ski and snowboard tuning and avalanche rescue packages during the winter months.

Our rentals are open to everyone, and current U of I students enjoy discounted rates with their VandalCard.

Rental Center policies and procedures

Rental pricing terms

The U of I Rental Center is user-fee supported.

  • All prices listed reflect two-day or weekend rates.
  • No charge for pickup and return days (except for one-day rentals).
  • Reservations accepted with payment at the rental center.
  • Long-term daily rental prices are reduced 50 percent after five days paid at regular rate.
  • Equipment must be returned during regular business hours. 
Cancellation policy
  • Cancellations more than 14 days’ notice = 90 percent refund.
  • Cancellations less than 14 days out = 75 percent rental credit refund.
  • We cannot issue refunds for purchases made with rental credit. 
Reservations

To avoid the weekend rush, we encourage placing your reservations 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday. Reservations can be paid in full in person at the Outdoor Rental Center located inside the Student Recreation Center (SRC). 

Pickup and returns

Bring your valid ID and allow at least 15 minutes when picking up or returning equipment so staff can verify its condition.

Equipment repair and tune-ups

The Outdoor Program offers professional tuning and repair services for a variety of outdoor equipment — available to University of Idaho students and community members.

Ski and snowboard tuning services

  • Full tune – Hot wax, precision edge filing (base and side), base leveling and p-tex fill for a smooth, fast ride.
  • Edge and wax – Precision edge filing with a hot wax finish for sharp turns and better control.
  • Hot wax – Traditional hot wax for improved glide and protection.
  • Binding adjustment and testing – Available for Salomon, Atomic, Look, Rossignol and Marker bindings.
  • Base weld for core shots – Repair deep gouges with durable base welds.
  • Epoxy work – Fix delamination, chips and minor damage.
  • Ski mounting – Professional mounting for alpine ski bindings. 

Equipment repair services

  • Tent repairs – Fabric patches, zipper fixes and pole repair. Bring your gear for an estimate.
  • Backpack repairs – Strap, buckle and fabric repairs. Bring your gear for an estimate.
  • Raft repairs – High-quality patching for punctures, rips and valve issues on Hypalon, PVC and urethane boats. Pricing by estimate.
