Parking and Transportation Services
Welcome! Your Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) team is focused on keeping U of I moving. The beautiful campus and nearby downtown Moscow community are readily accessible by many people via walking or biking. For shorter travel times or longer distances, alternative transportation options are available.
Parking and Transportation Services
University of Idaho Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) keeps the Moscow campus moving. Getting around our compact, walkable campus and bustling downtown is easy — whether you walk, bike or use personal transportation.
Free SMART Transit buses provide a convenient alternative to driving, with eight campus stops and extensive routes throughout Moscow. For those with mobility concerns, Vandal Access offers pre-scheduled campus transportation.
Planning to drive? All campus parking requires either daily payment or an annual permit. Limited daily parking is available at meters and through the AMP mobile app. Availability of permits, specific permit types and parking locations are not guaranteed.
Questions? Contact PTS at parking@uidaho.edu or 208-885-6424.
Parking at University of Idaho: What you need to know
University of Idaho’s PTS team is committed to making campus parking straightforward and accessible. Whether you’re a student, employee, visitor or community member, understanding parking regulations and options will help you navigate campus with ease.
Parking rules and regulations
University of Idaho parking regulations guide the use and administration of the campus parking and transportation system. All motor vehicles and bicycles operated on the Moscow campus are responsible for following the regulations administered by Parking and Transportation Services. Parking permit holders agree to follow parking regulations upon purchasing a permit. Failure to abide by the regulations may result in citations, fines or other penalties.
Short-term parking: Meters and pay stations
For brief visits, use parking meters or pay stations located throughout campus.
- Payment: Credit/debit cards only. Malfunctioning meters default to a no-parking zone — call 208-885-6424 if you experience issues.
- Mobile pay with AMP: Pay for parking in select Pay-by-Plate lots (Student Rec Center, VandalStore, Upper Rayburn and Student Health Center) using the AMP app or website. Simply pay through the AMP website or download the free AMP app from Google Play or the Apple App Store. Note that AMP is valid only in pay-by-plate lots with pay stations and does not work with traditional parking meters. For more on how to use AMP, view our guide.
Parking enforcement
Parking regulations are enforced year-round, with different rules depending on location and time of year:
- General violations are enforced 24/7, 365 days a year.
- Daytime violations apply 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some spaces have extended enforcement — always check posted signs.
- Academic breaks and holidays: During breaks and holidays, no permits are required in most general parking lots (Blue, Red, Orange, Silver, Purple and Magenta), but Gold and Green lots still require permits. Meters and pay stations require payment year-round, except in lot 107, adjacent to the Student Recreation Center (SRC). See the university calendar for details.
- All specially marked spaces, including disability, reserved, service, delivery, timed and no-parking zones, are enforced year-round and require valid permits.
- Disability spaces are enforced at all times, as follows:
- Both a U of I Disability permit and a valid state-issued disability placard or plate are required to be displayed in all campus ADA marked spaces except on weekdays after 5 p.m., weekends, academic breaks and on university holidays. During these other times, ONLY a valid state-issued disability permit or disability license plate is required to be displayed in ADA marked spaces.
- In all hourly paid parking areas and posted timed spaces and at all times that payment is required or time limit is enforced, ONLY a state-issued disability permit or disability license plate is required to be displayed, and no time restriction applies.
- It is a violation of these regulations for a current university employee or student to park in a campus meter or timed space with only a state-issued disability permit or disability license plate to avoid the purchase of a university parking permit. See also APM 40.32.A.2.
Disability parking for visitors
- Park at meters or pay-to-park lots with a valid disability placard/plate — no time limit applies.
- To park in ADA spaces with an ADA placard or plate between 6 a.m. through 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the regular semester, purchase an online Visitor Parking Permit and display it on your dashboard. Your regular placard/plate must also be visible. A visitor permit is not required during academic breaks, weekends, holidays or after 5 p.m. on weekdays.
Visitor parking options
Visitor permits cost $4/day, valid in most campus lots. Buy online or in person. Display on dashboard. Ten-day option available.
