Civil Engineering Steel Bridge Competition Team Takes Third at Regionals
May 31, 2022
The University of Idaho Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Steel Bridge Competition team took third place in 2022 regional competitions.
Hosted by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), the Student Steel Bridge Competition challenges teams to take real-world engineering issues into consideration – such as spatial constraints, material properties, strength, serviceability, fabrication and safety – to design a steel bridge that meets client specifications and optimizes performance and economy.
At U of I, students fabricate the entire bridge themselves, resulting in the construction of 1:10 scale model tested for stability, strength and serviceability. Student teams have been competing regionally and nationally for 20 years.
