U of I Theatre Arts Announces 2022-23 Theatre Season

MOSCOW, Idaho — From a provocative musical to an uproarious comedy, or a one-man drama to classic Shakespeare, University of Idaho’s Department of Theatre Arts’ upcoming theatre season covers new and classic theatrical ground, offering something for everyone, including holiday plays and new works.

Sept. 10, “Every Brilliant Thing” is a one-night-only, one-man life-affirming play starring Craig A. Miller, U of I assistant professor. The show is sponsored by U of I Recreation and Wellbeing as part of Suicide Awareness Week.
Sept. 23-25, “First Bite New Play Series” is a fall showcase for emerging U of I Master of Fine Arts playwrights, featuring free staged readings of new works. Each performance is followed by a question-and-answer session with the playwright.
Oct. 28-Nov. 6, “Cabaret” is a provocative, classic yet relevant musical that examines the rise of a political movement that threatens basic human freedoms and identity. Directed by Craig A. Miller and Vern Sielert, musical director, “Cabaret” is produced in collaboration with the Lionel Hampton School of Music. The show is intended for mature audiences.
Nov. 12, “Cry Havoc” is a single-night, inspirational one-man show starring Stephan Wolfert, who recounts his experience pre- and post-military service. Through the lines of Shakespeare’s most famous speeches and personal insights, Wolfert explores our societal neurosis of war. Idaho Repertory Theatre is hosting this performance.
Dec. 8-11, “Holiday Punch” features a holiday season revue of short works and music, written, directed and performed by U of I theatre students.
Feb. 10-12, 2023, “First Bite New Play Series” is the spring showcase for emerging U of I Master of Fine Arts playwrights, featuring free staged readings of new work. Each performance is followed by a question-and-answer session with the playwright.
Mar. 3-12, 2023, “The Play That Goes Wrong” is a slapstick comedy directed by David Lee-Painter about a bumbling college drama group staging a mystery, “The Murder at Haversham Manor,” that quickly goes from bad to utterly disastrous.
Apr. 28-May 7, 2023 “Measure for Measure” is a dark tragicomedy of corruption, family dysfunction and the abuse of power. Directed by U of I MFA alumna Kate Powers, the work is considered one of William Shakespeare’s problem plays for its complex and ambiguous tone.
Online tickets become available for sale one month before show openings. Tickets are also sold at the door one hour before shows begin.
