MEDIA ADVISORY: Economic Sustainability Workshop at U of I This Week
October 10, 2022
MOSCOW, Idaho Stakeholders from throughout the Columbia River Basin will meet at University of Idaho for two days this week to find new ways to develop local economies based on climate-smart products and land management.
As part of a larger sustainability initiative at the university, representatives from local communities, tribal and state governments, agriculture and forestry industries, and regional community development directors will engage Oct. 13 and 14 at the Integrated Research and Innovation Center (IRIC) on the U of I campus.
Ideas convened will be used to develop a proposal for a $160 million National Science Foundation Regional Innovation Engine grant. The project would help form sustainability-focused affiliations between industry and government to drive the regional economy.
“This is very much about a public-private partnership, and it’s pretty exciting for us because NSF is targeting regions of the U.S. that have not participated in the recent technology boom,” said Tara Hudiburg, associate professor in the College of Natural Resources. “Our efforts will address an issue of national concern, because the focus is to mitigate climate change.”
WHEN: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 13, and 8 a.m. to noon, Oct. 14.
WHERE: Integrated Research and Innovation Center (IRIC), University of Idaho, Moscow campus
MEDIA AVAILABILITY: 8-9:30 a.m. and noon Thursday; 7:45-9 a.m. Friday
