Idaho Repertory Theatre presents romantic comedy ‘Love and Baseball’

MOSCOW, Idaho — Idaho Repertory Theatre, the professional summer theatre in residence at University of Idaho, presents the comedic and moving romance “Love and Baseball” by Jerry Montoya. There will be six shows, starting with opening night at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the Forge Theater, 404 Sweet Ave., in Moscow.

Two powerful souls are separated by fate. They are destined to become a team. Can they quiet their egos to let love lead the way?
Much like baseball, love is a game of luck, skill and timing. In “Love and Baseball,” themes of honesty, pain and passion are explored through the relationship between the characters of Will, a struggling filmmaker, and Michele, a razor-sharp philosophy teacher. “Love and Baseball” stars recent U of I theatre grads Emma Blonda and Anthony Kirby in a story that speaks to the power of connection and the admiration of a sport played like an art form.
“The two characters, Michele and Will, are so close to perfection together,” director Randy Reinholz said. “During the action, we watch possibility become power, building to the moment of truth. What do they do? The results fuel us with passion. We question our own life’s love events and wonder, ‘What if I had made a different choice, where might we be?’”
“Love and Baseball” captures an honest take on love, with all the joy and pain.
“I wanted to create a romance that was smart and funny but also real. That wasn’t a fairy tale with a Disney ending,” playwright Jerry Montoya said. “A play that entertained but had the potential to either break your heart or bring unbridled joy. Just like a great baseball game. You just have to watch until the last moment to find out.”
Tickets are free for U of I students and $6 to $26 for the public. They are on sale now at uitickets.com.
