October 09, 2024
MOSCOW, Idaho — The University of Idaho James A. and Louise McClure Center for Public Policy Research in partnership with Idaho Business for the Outdoors will host Ernest Scheyder, author of “The War Below: Lithium, Copper, and the Global Battle to Power Our Lives.” The event, Idaho’s Minerals and the Energy Future, will take place at 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at The Egyptian Theatre, 700 W. Main St., Boise.
Scheyder will discuss his book and explore challenges and opportunities related to Idaho’s minerals and the energy future with leaders from Idaho National Laboratory, The Nature Conservancy and Micron.
Scheyder is a senior correspondent for Reuters covering the energy transition and critical minerals, as well as the author of “The War Below: Lithium, Copper, and the Global Battle to Power Our Lives,” which was named one of the best Summer Books of 2024 by the Financial Times and one of the Best Books of 2024 So Far by Amazon. Scheyder previously covered the U.S. shale oil revolution, politics and the environment, and held roles at the Associated Press and the Bangor Daily News. A native of Maine, Scheyder is a graduate of the University of Maine and Columbia Journalism School.
“This is an important conversation for Idahoans to be a part of,” said Heather Eastman, executive director of Idaho Business for the Outdoors. “By bringing Ernest Scheyder and Idaho leaders together to discuss the complexities of our energy future, minerals, local communities and global impacts, we hope this event leads to many more conversations like it across the state.”
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through The Egyptian Theatre box office or online at egyptiantheatre.net/events.
