From the moment Gepetto creates him from a stick of wood, Pinocchio dreams of being a real boy. But will the all-too-tempting delights of puppet shows and Playland be too much for him? When Gepetto is swallowed by a whale, it is up to this little puppet to show his courage and prove his love for his Papa is real.
“This adaptation of ‘Pinocchio’ is a fresh take on the classic story,” said Jeremiah Price, director and Theatre Arts MFA candidate. “Set in a theater that is under construction, 11 actors take on the task of creating a production of ‘Pinocchio’ from scratch. Through endless creativity, hard work and maybe a little bit of magic, this timeless story of parents and children is told with the help of beautiful sets, bright costumes and imaginative puppets. Exploring the themes of responsibility, authenticity and choosing your family, this show is sure to be a delight for children and adults alike.”
The on-stage magic has found its way to the real-life cast and crew, who have been innovating new ideas to make this production one of a kind.
“I am excited to be directing this production because it has been a true collaboration between all aspects of the theatre department,” Price said. “All of the members of our production team as well as every actor in the show has added their voice to the process to ensure that a truly unique and imaginative production results.”
“Pinocchio” is a great show for all ages, with fun for the whole family.
“The Department of Theatre Arts continues its tradition of offering family-friendly theatre for our campus and community,” Theatre Arts Department Chair Robert Caisley said. “’Pinocchio’ endures as a beloved classic because it features universal themes like honesty, personal growth and redemption. The magical elements and strong moral lessons resonate with both children and adults alike.”
McKenzy Quick, who plays the titular role, said the chemistry among the cast members makes the performances special.
“My cast mates and I all loved putting this show together,” Quick said. “I think it really shines through the performance that, most importantly, we are all having fun. I hope everyone can come see the show to have the same amount of fun that we've had.”
