U of I opens registration for spring Pilates instructor training

Hybrid programs prepare participants for Pilates teaching careers and help practitioners deepen their skills

October 27, 2026

MOSCOW, Idaho — Oct. 26, 2026 — Registration is open for the Spring 2027 BASI Pilates Teacher Training Programs hosted at University of Idaho.

U of I will offer two programs:

  • Mat Pilates Teacher Training, covering beginning through advanced mat exercises.
  • Mat & Reformer Pilates Teacher Training, covering beginning through advanced mat repertoire and beginning through intermediate exercises on the reformer, a variable resistance apparatus designed by Joseph Pilates.

Both programs will be offered through BASI’s new hybrid Flex format, combining online lectures with four in-person modules focused on movement repertoire and physical practice. A professional guest faculty member of BASI Pilates will teach the in-person modules Feb. 6-7 and Feb. 27-28. Participants who complete the course modules and required practice hours and pass the tests will earn a Pilates Teacher certificate from BASI Pilates.

As a globally recognized leader in Pilates education, BASI offers a strong foundation steeped in academic excellence and innovation. The BASI programs teach about proper body mechanics, techniques for guiding participants, anatomy and exercise modifications to support movers of all abilities.

These professional development programs are open to all, including U of I employees, alumni, students, and community members.

“We aim to support participants seeking careers in the Pilates industry or wishing to supplement a career in a related field, as well as those that are interested in engaging in the next level of their own Pilates practice,” said Melanie Meenan, U of I Pilates education coordinator and lab director.

Past certificate participants teach Pilates at fitness centers, work in physical therapy clinics, run private studios and benefit from the international BASI network of instructors and studios.

Tuition for the Mat & Reformer program increases as registration progresses:

  • $2,700 until Sunday, Nov. 1
  • $2,775 until Dec. 1
  • $2,850 until Jan. 1
  • $3,000 after Jan. 1

A $500 tuition down payment is required for the earliest discounted rate.

Mat program tuition is $1,350, with $500 due at registration. Space is limited; participants are encouraged to register early.

Participants who complete the Mat & Reformer training may continue into the Comprehensive Pilates program at U of I and apply all tuition paid for the Mat & Reformer program toward its cost.

U of I students may earn practicum or internship credit and pursue networking and job placement opportunities. Students should email pilates@uidaho.edu to express interest in these additional opportunities as soon as possible.
