Craig McGowan wins UI Presidential Mid-Career Award
Craig McGowan, Ph.D., associate professor in Biological Sciences is one of the 2017/2018 recipients of the Presidential Mid-Career Award. This award was established in 2011-12 to acknowledge achievements made by gifted faculty during the middle of their career, who have demonstrated a commitment to outstanding scholarship, teaching, and engagement at the University of Idaho.
The McGowan lab studies the relationships between the musculoskeletal morphology of terrestrial vertebrate animals (e.g., kangaroo rats, grizzly bears, humans) and the biomechanics and neural control of locomotor performance. Dr. McGowan’s research team consists of a combination of undergraduate researchers, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.
Dr. McGowan publishes in well-cited journals and collaborates widely with some of the top researchers in his field. His research productivity was recently recognized with a prestigious National Sciences Foundation CAREER award that will support his activities for the next 5 years. Dr. McGowan’s involvement in research extends beyond his lab to support for live animal research across campus by serving as the current Chair of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
Congratulations, Dr. McGowan!
