Frequently Asked Questions
The Children's Center serves student, faculty and staff families as well as community families. It serves children ages 6 weeks to 6 years old.
It is common that we have a waiting list for vacancies at the Children's Center. Student and sibling families are given priority consideration followed by faculty/staff, then community.
Enrollment offers are extended based on specific availability within the center and age group. We do not send email confirmation when a waitlist application is received. We will make contact with a family when we have identified enrollment opportunities that meet your child’s age and schedule request.

A full-time spot is from 7:30-5:30. Children are not required to be here by a certain time, but the spot for your child is secured during those hours.
The only part time option is in our morning preschool room, for ages 3-5 years, from 7:30-12:30.
If your schedule does not work with these time slots, you will need to secure a full-time spot.
The minimum enrollment at UICC is 2 full days or 3 half days (morning preschool option only).
To initiate the enrollment process, upon accepting a spot in the program, a $100 non-refundable enrollment fee must be paid. By the first day of attendance, tuition must be paid for at least the first half of the month. Tuition is due by the 5th of each month. If monthly tuition is split into two payments, the second payment is due by the 20th of the month. In addition to your child’s first month of tuition, families are also charge a deposit that is equivalent to one month’s tuition. Families may take up to 3 months to pay the deposit. The deposit is applied to your account when a 30 day written notice is submitted to withdraw your child from the center. As your child moves to a classroom with a lower monthly tuition, part of your deposit will be credited to your account so that the deposit matches your child’s enrollment.
Parents of enrolled children are welcome any time during the day. Perspective families are always welcome, but calling ahead to schedule a tour is appreciated to ensure we have availability.
The Children's Center is closed all of the holidays the university observes but is open during U of I spring break. There are three teacher-in-service days per year and parent teacher conferences twice a year when the center will be closed. Please refer to the academic calendar.
Enrollment contracts are yearly and do not allow for breaks in tuition for holidays, illness, vacation, summer or emergency closures. If you choose to dis-enroll from the program for a break or summer this requires a 30 day notice and your spot will offered to other prospective families on the waitlist.
