The benefits of joining a Greek chapter
Joining a fraternity or sorority opens the door to a network of support, friendship, and opportunity. From community to academics to personal development, there are many benefits of joining a brotherhood or sisterhood as you begin your journey as a Vandal:
- Discover a supportive environment: Transitioning to college can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. Greek Life gives you a built-in community to help you navigate the social and academic transition to college life. With the advice and perspectives of your chapter’s members, you can grow your network, participate in events, build your confidence and ultimately find your home away from home.
- Branch out and lead: Broaden your connections and see how your brotherhood and sisterhood can have far-reaching effects. U of I’s Greek organizations are involved with on-campus groups and events, community service and other philanthropic efforts. Engage in meaningful teamwork while cultivating your leadership and organizational skills.
- Reach your potential: Studies have shown that graduation rates are higher for fraternity and sorority members than the general college population. Each chapter is highly invested in academic success, providing scholarships and other resources such as tutoring and study support to keep you on track.
- Expand your network: Your Greek network extends beyond U of I — connecting you to alumni and national chapter members. These connections can help you land internships or your first full-time job and give you opportunities to give others a head start on their future, too.
