Homecoming week highlights

Sunday, Oct. 5

Kickoff event — 4 p.m., Theophilus Tower Lawn

The Homecoming kick-off event marks the beginning of the best week on campus! The Homecoming committee organizes a field day filled with friendly competitions for students to take part in. The kick-off event is also where Homecoming royalty nominees are announced, and Homecoming merchandise is distributed.

This year’s event features yard game competitions including:

  • Giant Jenga
  • Cornhole
  • Connect 4
  • Lawn pong
  • Spike ball

Monday through Thursday, Oct. 6-9

Vandalize Moscow — 3-6 p.m., Downtown Moscow

Vandalize Moscow decorates the downtown business district with Vandal Pride in our Homecoming theme. Student organizations work with business owners to decorate their storefronts with silver and gold art the whole community can enjoy. Once complete, alumni judges, the Homecoming president and advisor stroll through downtown to select a winning design.

Vandalize Campus — 8 - 5 p.m., Campus

Faculty, staff and students all show their Vandal spirit around campus! Check out your Dean of Students Office, the Administration Building, Department of Student Involvement, Greek houses, residence halls, student spaces and everywhere in between to see who’s competing for the most spirited campus location!

School supplies drive

Help support Vandal students by donating school supplies to drop boxes at the Idaho Student Union Building, Bruce M. Pitman Center and other locations around campus. Stay tuned for more locations as they are confirmed!

Jingles — 7:30 - 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, Pitman Center International Ballroom

Jingles brings together university student organizations to put on skits for fellow students and alumni judges. Skits are awarded points for how well they represent the Homecoming theme with creativity and Vandal Pride. Part talent show, part pep rally, Jingles always promises to be a show you won’t want to miss.

Friday, Oct. 10

Tap the Keg Craft Brew Festival — 4:30 - 7:30 p.m., Dan O'Brien Track and Field Complex

Join fellow Vandals and craft beer lovers for an evening of local flavor, great company and comradery. Enjoy a selection of craft brews from some of the region’s best breweries, tasty eats from SmasHouse Burger and live music by DoubleWide Surprise. Whether you’re a craft beer connoisseur or just looking for a fun night out, Tap the Keg is the perfect way to start your Homecoming weekend.

Serpentine and Vandal Rally, 8 p.m., U of I Golf Course

Meet at U of I Golf Course

The Serpentine is one of the most anticipated events of the week. Beginning at the U of I Golf Course, the excitement and energy build as the Serpentine snakes across campus to the ICCU Arena for the Vandal Rally.

P1FCU Kibbie Dome parking lot

When the Serpentine arrives at the P1FCU Kibbie Dome parking lot, the Vandal Rally starts the most exciting event of the night. The Homecoming committee gives a speech to introduce and crown the Homecoming Royalty. Head Football Coach Thomas Ford Jr. is then joined by Vandal Football players to pump up the crowd for the big Homecoming football game the following evening followed by a traditional bonfire.

Homecoming fireworks show — 9 p.m., P1FCU Kibbie Dome parking lot

Our Homecoming fireworks show follows the Vandal Rally. Light up your Vandal spirit and the Moscow sky with a spectacular fireworks show over the U of I campus. Bring your friends, family and Vandal pride to cap off an unforgettable night of celebration.

Help us make this year’s fireworks show the biggest and best yet by giving a gift to Homecoming!
 

Saturday, Oct. 11

Homecoming Parade — 10 - 11 a.m., Main St., Moscow, Idaho

Main Street

Students, community members and alumni all take part in the Homecoming Parade through downtown Moscow. Student teams create parade floats that show their Vandal Pride and get the crowd pumped up for the Homecoming football game later that evening. Alumni judges vote for the best float among the student organizations as they roll through the crowds along the main strip of the Moscow business district. 

Future Vandals Parade: Vandal parents and their children have their own parade through downtown before the rest of the procession gets up and running.

Vandal Village tailgate and pre-game celebration — 11 a.m., ICCU Arena Plaza

The official Vandal tailgate opens three hours prior to kickoff and is located right in front of the ICCU Arena! The Village features food by local vendors, special performances, a visit by the Sound of Idaho Marching Band and Vandal Spirit Squad, giveaways, games for kids and more!

Vandal Football game — 2 p.m., P1FCU Kibbie Dome

Homecoming week festivities build to a roaring celebration at the big Homecoming football game Saturday night. The energy in the Dome is electric with the student section showing off their best Vandal gear and spirit. During the halftime show, our Homecoming Royalty are presented to the alumni side of the field and join the Vandal Marching Band and the Vandaleers to lead the entire crowd in singing our Alma Matter. Help us pack the Dome and get loud for the big game!

Vandal Alumni

Vandal alumni are always encouraged to participate as judges for Homecoming royalty, Vandalize Campus, Vandalize Moscow, Jingles, Most Vandalized Fan and the parade. Royalty interviews are typically over Zoom, so you can participate from anywhere. Alumni interested in judging any of these events are encouraged to sign up. Become an alumni judge.

Students and campus organizations

All students are welcome to participate in all Homecoming festivities and competitions. Join the festivities by filling out this sign-up sheet.

Celebrate Homecoming with the Vandal Marching Band

High school bands are invited to participate in the Homecoming parade and join the Vandal Marching Band for the pregame show.

Homecoming Committee

The Homecoming Committee is a team of students from across campus who plan and host Homecoming Week events each year. Planning begins in the spring.

Explore Homecoming Committee positions

Homecoming president

This position leads the Homecoming Committee within the Student Alumni Relations Board (SARB) and University of Idaho. They work with the SARB advisor and other committee members to plan the week and guide the team.

Vice president of Homecoming

The main duty of the VP is to support the Homecoming president. Responsibilities may include scheduling meetings, managing committee communications and keeping committee members accountable. The VP promotes Homecoming and recruits new committee members.

Director of teams

This position promotes committee involvement and encourages student participation in Homecoming events. They work closely with judges and the points and prizes coordinator to align teams and visit living groups to build engagement.

Director of marketing

Working with the assistant director of community outreach, this position works to create special promotions and deals at local businesses during Homecoming Week. The director of marketing coordinates closely with the SARB advisor, UI Foundation marketing and communications and University Communications and Marketing to create and execute marketing plans.

Assistant director of philanthropy

This position partners with the Red Cross to coordinate the annual blood drive, identifies a community partner for the annual food drive and explores options for other philanthropic events.

Assistant director of fundraising

This position partners with the UI Foundation’s Annual Giving team to raise funds for the Homecoming fireworks show. This includes developing a fundraising appeal with the SARB advisor and UI Foundation marketing and communications, as well as managing other fundraising activities such as Koozie sales or promo parties.

Assistant director of Friday night events

This position helps develop, prepare for and set up Friday night events such as the Serpentine, fireworks show and Vandal Rally. They work closely with staff members in Alumni Relations, Parking and Facilities.

Merchandise coordinator

This position serves as the main contact for U of I Licensing and Trademarks to gain branding approval for Homecoming merchandise designs.

Public relations coordinator

By working with local Moscow businesses, this position coordinates the annual window painting competition and assigns student teams to storefronts.

Parade coordinator

This position is responsible for planning, coordinating and executing the annual Homecoming parade.

Royalty coordinator

This position manages the nomination and voting process for Homecoming royalty. Royalty coordinators are appointed, not nominated.

Judges, points and prizes coordinator

This position recruits and schedules judges for Homecoming events. Along with the director of teams, this position manages team points.
