Robert Collier received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in zoology from Eastern Illinois University in 1969 and 1973 and his doctorate in dairy science from the University of Illinois in 1976.

After post-doctoral studies at Michigan State University, Collier joined the Dairy Science Department at the University of Florida as an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate professor in 1981. In July 1985, Collier joined the Monsanto Company first as a science fellow then dairy research director and senior fellow. In September 1999, Collier joined the faculty of the Animal Sciences Department, University of Arizona as professor of environmental physiology. He retired from the University of Arizona May, 31, 2017 and on Sept. 22, 2019 he joins the Department of Animal and Veterinary Science of the University of Idaho as department head.

Collier co-founded Amelgo Company located in Covington Kentucky in 2007. Amelgo Company is dedicated to bringing new technology to the dairy industry. Collier is author or coauthor of 400 peer reviewed journal articles, chapters, reviews and abstracts; 65 popular articles and 11 U.S. patents.

His areas of expertise include environmental and lactation physiology, endocrinology and molecular biology.
