VA Benefit Account Requirements
All students receiving VA benefits must maintain certain accounts with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
These accounts allow students to safely access personal information. The type of account you are required to have is dictated by the benefit chapters for which you qualify.
What chapters are you using?
Students using the Post 9/11 GI Bill® Chapter 33 are required to have a VA.gov account.
The account allows students to obtain up-to-date information on educational entitlements, including months and days of benefit remaining. Students can also update direct deposit and personal contact information, download VA letters and personal documents and view a record of all payments made by the VA for education and disability. Students must be in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System to create an account.
Students using the Montgomery GI Bill® Chapters 30 or 1606 are required to have a WAVE account. WAVE accounts allow students to obtain up-to-date information on educational entitlements, including months and days of benefit remaining, and verify college enrollment each month.
Military and Veteran Services highly recommends students also register for a VA.gov account to keep record of VA payments, download VA letters and personal documents, and update direct deposit and personal information.
