Becoming a Master Gardener
The Benewah County Master Gardener Program is constantly looking for people of all ages to join the program and assist in the promulgation of information and skills in horticulture. If you love gardening or enjoy improving your knowledge of the nature's bounty of trees and flowers in our area, join us.
- APPLY TO BECOME AN IDAHO MASTER GARDENER
- Contact the UI Extension, Benewah County office and request a Master Gardener Interest Form or download the Master Gardener Interest Form PDF.
- Complete and return the interest form to the UI Extension, Benewah County Master Gardener office.
- Register for core course and pay the course fee. Next course is the spring of 2023.
- SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE EXTENSION MASTER GARDENER CORE COURSE
- Complete 30 hours of home horticulture education
- Offered every other year, Feb. - March.
- Next course is the spring of 2023.
- All students must complete online quizzes for each topic module.
- Courses are taught by UI Extension educators, faculty or other knowledgeable people in the business.
- As part of the 30 hours of home horticulture education the applicant must complete 6 hours required topics including a 3-hour minimum of training on Insect Identification/Control, Plant disease and/or Plant Identification.
- Complete 30 hours of home horticulture education
- COMPLETE 12 HOURS OF PLANT CLINIC
- Trainees will attend a minimum of 4 (12 hours total) plant clinics with a certified Master Gardener
- Plant Clinics are held:
- April 15 - September 30
- Tuesdays 9 a.m. to noon
- Thursdays 1 - 4 p.m.
- SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE: VOLUNTEER 32 HOURS
- Volunteer for projects and events that deliver horticulture education and information to the public.
- Report your volunteer hours by Dec. 31.
