To many, a scholarship is simply another financial donation. To others, it’s an investment in the future. To me, a scholarship embodies the essence of what it means to have a community. It’s a way for others to say they believe in you, value you and see the potential you have. A scholarship is not just about money, it’s about people – the people donating and the people receiving. A bridge between one generation to the next.
In the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences we use the word family a lot – we truly believe that CALS is a family. The CALS family has blessed me and my college experience, from those who listen, those who nurture growth and those who have pushed me to reach my potential. I can full-heartedly say that I am prepared to embark on my career because of the CALS family. Not just because of the classroom knowledge I have received, but also because of the personal growth that I have developed.
What does this have to do with scholarships? Scholarships have allowed me to jump into my education with both feet. To work less and study more. To choose the internship that will give me the skills I need, not focusing on the pay cut I may take. To say yes to more opportunities and worry less. To graduate knowing that I am financially sound rather than swimming in debt.
