Student Organization Award Categories

Student organizations can apply or be nominated for the following awards during the nomination period.

Nominations are open through Thursday, Feb. 29.

Student Organization Award Categories

This award is presented to an ASUI Affiliated Student Organization (ASO) or University Recognized Student Organization (RSO) that has demonstrated exceptional motivation, innovation and involvement in community service. This organization is one that has provided outstanding service to the community without regard for group gain, while exhibiting commitment to the causes, concerns, events or needs at hand. This award is presented to an organization in the hopes that its exceptional service may inspire and motivate others to participate in community service. The service must be performed without pay and have taken place in the Moscow/Pullman area. The intent of this award is to acknowledge service above and beyond philanthropic events that local chapters of national organizations may be required to complete. The winning organization will receive $250.

Any current ASO or RSO is eligible to apply or be nominated. UI students, faculty, staff and administrators may nominate candidates. Applications and nominations should reflect why the organization chose to serve, its commitment to the community and service for others, the impact of its volunteer service action on the community and any additional information pertinent to the award. Up to four additional pages of pertinent and supporting background materials such as newspaper articles, letters of support, citations and project descriptions may also be included in the applications or nominations.

The intent of this award is to acknowledge the programming efforts of student organizations beyond events that local chapters of national organizations may be required to complete. The quality of student life at the University of Idaho is greatly enhanced by the co-curricular opportunities ASUI Recognized Student Organizations (ASOs) and University Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) provide each year. From cultural and spiritual events to educational, social, or civic engagement initiatives, student-organized programs make an impact on our community in a variety of ways. In an effort to recognize and reward those student organizations that provide quality programs and events to the campus community, the ASUI Funding Board and the Department of Student Involvement established the Program of Excellence Award. Two student organizations will receive $250.

Any current ASO or RSO is eligible to apply or be nominated. UI students, faculty, staff and administrators may nominate candidates. Applications and nominations should include the organization's mission statement, a description of the event or program and its goals, date(s) held, location and number of students who participated, and impact of the program on the campus community. Up to four additional pages of pertinent and supporting background materials such as newspaper articles, letters of support, citations and project descriptions may also be included in the applications or nominations.

Faculty advisors have been a part of students' extracurricular activities since the 1890s, when U of I administration encouraged the development of student organizations in order to discourage young men from frequenting local saloons. Today, organization advisors still play a vital role in the lives of students. They give of themselves and their time to enhance co-curricular experiences of students. This award was created in recognition of the work student organization advisors do above and beyond professional responsibilities.

Any current University of Idaho faculty or staff member who serves as advisor to a recognized or affiliated student organization is eligible to apply or be nominated. UI students, faculty, staff and administrators may nominate candidates. Candidates who have student organization advising responsibilities as part of their employment duties are not eligible. Applications and nominations should reflect the advisor's level of contribution to organizational activities and students' leadership development; their impact on the organization, its members and the campus; and distinguished service to their organization, either one significant activity or a pattern of exemplary service over the year(s).
