John Cannon grew up on a family farm in west-central Illinois. In high school, he was actively involved in FFA and 4-H. He received his bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Illinois before pursuing a career as a high school agriculture instructor and baseball coach. After five years in the high school classroom, he entered the field of higher education by completing his doctorate at Virginia Tech. Before moving to Idaho, Cannon served as an assistant professor in Career and Technical Education at the University of Rio Grande in southeastern Ohio. He moved to Boise for his current position with the University of Idaho in July of 2008. In his spare time, Cannon officiates high school football in southwestern Idaho and cheers on the St. Louis Cardinals, University of Illinois Fighting Illini and Virginia Tech Hokies.

• Idaho Professional-Technical Leadership Institute, the purpose of this Institute is to prepare the next generation of Idaho district and state professional-technical leaders. Weblink: https://cte.idaho.gov/

• Idaho PTE New Teacher Pre-Service Workshop: The workshop is designed to provide beginning professional-technical teachers with entry-level knowledge and skills needed to plan and teach in occupational programs. This is a collaborative effort between the University of Idaho, Idaho State University, and the Idaho Division of Professional-Technical Education. The workshop is held in late July each year, and the U of I and ISU alternate coordination of the event.
