Dr. John Russell is the University of Idaho (U of I) Associate Director for the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES), a member of the U of I Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED), and holds a joint appointment with Idaho National Laboratory (INL). He works to build collaborations between university faculty and national laboratory researchers in his role at CAES, a State-National Laboratory consortium consisting of INL, Boise State University, Idaho State University, and U of I. Prior to joining U of I in 2018, he served in policy fellowship roles at US Congress, US Department of Energy, and National Science Foundation. His academic preparation includes graduate and postdoctoral research at Argonne National Laboratory, a doctorate in chemistry from University of Illinois at Chicago, and a bachelors with majors in chemistry and English literature from Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Russell is a US Army veteran and served as a chemical officer in the 10th Mountain Division.
