Grad makes most of first year in the 'real world' with Sherwin-Williams
Job searching the semester before I graduated from the University of Idaho felt like a full-time job and was emotionally exhausting. I had been interviewing with a couple companies, but nothing was falling into place. Career Services provided multiple resources to perfect resumes, improve interviewing skills and several avenues of opportunities to present myself in front of future employers. Attending the career fair the fall semester before I graduated in December 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in advertising is the reason why I am where I am today.
After following up on the information I received from Sherwin-Williams paint supply at the career fair, I applied online and went through a series of interviews, I was offered a job with Sherwin-Williams as assistant manager at the Coeur d'Alene Idaho store, where on a daily basis my job included knowing the market, increasing sales, customer service, leadership skills, developing relationships, accounts receivable and all other tasks associated with running a small business.
Hard work pays off, because after one year in the 'real world' and one year working for Sherwin-Williams I've was promoted to a sales representative for the Seattle district.
U of I has provided me with a network of Vandals and a solid foundation to continue to build my career. Career Services is a resource every Vandal needs to utilize in order to prepare and place themselves in front of future employers. I would not be where I am today without my experiences and support received from U of I.
