The Team & Our Space

The staff at the Native American Student Center warmly welcomes you! We're here to support, empower and uplift Native American students and foster a sense of community, culture and belonging. Whether you need academic guidance, cultural resources, or a space to connect with others who share your background and experiences, we are here to help.

Our center is a place where you can engage in activities, seek advice and celebrate traditions. We’re excited to be part of your journey and are committed to honoring and promoting Native voices, values and histories. Feel free to stop by, meet the team and get involved. Welcome to the Native American Student Center — your home away from home!

Reaching out to the University of Idaho’s Native American Student Center before your visit is a smart step. It allows the staff to tailor your experience and provide a warm welcome to the campus. Here’s a handy guide to make the most out of your campus visit:

  1. Contact the Native American Student Center
Begin by emailing or calling the center. Share the date of your visit, the services or programs you’re curious about and any specific interests, like meeting with current students or staff members.
  2. Prepare Your Questions
Jot down questions related to academic support, cultural programming, financial aid, or resources for Native students adjusting to college life. These questions will help guide conversations and ensure you get the information you need.
  3. Request a Campus Tour
Ask if they can arrange a tour of both the center and the broader campus. You might explore areas like libraries, dining halls, residence halls and any Native cultural sites, art installations, or gathering spaces on campus.
  4. Check Out Events
See if there are any events, lectures, or gatherings scheduled during your visit. Attending an event is a wonderful way to get a feel for the campus community and meet students, staff, or faculty.
  5. Ask About Mentorship Programs
Many universities offer peer mentorship specifically for Native students or first-year students, which can be a valuable support system as you transition to college life. Inquire if such programs are available here.
  6. Gather Contact Information
Take note of the names and contact information of people you meet. These connections will be helpful for follow-up questions and staying in touch as you continue through the application or enrollment process.

By reaching out in advance, you’re taking an important step toward building a network of support at the University of Idaho, which will make your college experience even more enriching. If there’s anything specific you’d like to know or prepare, just let me know!
