Betsaida Chavez-Hermes is the recipient of the iMagis Postdoctoral Fellowship and is excited to be a part of the University of Idaho College of Law in the Fall of 2024. Chavez-Hermes received her bachelor’s degree in environmental studies with a focus in conservation biology from the College of Idaho. After college, she spent two years as a paralegal at Southern Migrant Legal Services (SMLS) in Nashville, Tenn., where she performed outreach to farmworkers in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas and Kentucky and helped attorneys with all aspects of litigation on behalf of farmworkers.
Chavez-Hermes’ work at SMLS led her to attend the University of Idaho College of Law where she graduated in 2020. Following graduation, she worked for Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, Immigrant Justice Idaho, and Christensen Legal. Chavez-Hermes is passionate about immigration law and providing quality representation to her clients as she understands, on a personal level, the impact of our immigration laws on a person, family, and community. In 2021, she was recognized by the Idaho Business Review Leaders in Law Awards in the Up and Coming category.
During her free time, she loves being outside camping, hiking, and exploring with her husband Jason and bernedoodle Ellie. She also volunteers on the board of directors of W/REST, a community cooperative with a collective law firm.
